Devizes Carnival began in 1912 and has continued pretty much every year since then. In around 2000 it experienced something of a renaissance and the carnival is now a happy and glorious mix of traditional and contemporary carnival styles and music. Community workshops (mas camps) are organised in the weeks running up to Carnival and many people take the chance to learn costume making, dance and circus skills. The carnival just grows and grows. This year bands include Bristol Samba, Portsmouth Batala, Swindon Samba and Bournemouth Carnival Band.
