Founded in 2009, Smoking Apples came together through a mutual love of puppetry, physical and visual theatre, with the desire to specifically target an adult audience, to creatively inspire their imaginations.
Smoking Apples aim to combine the live puppet with the live performer and merge the boundaries between puppeteer and physical performer. We believe that as performers, we do not have to favour one over the other, these can be combined, shared. For us, we can be both, they are one and the same thing, complimenting each other, bringing each other to life in a theatrical dialogue. Smoking Apples also aspires to further progress the realm of puppetry performance itself. To not disregard the rich history that it holds but to bring it into contemporary performance, as an integrated art form.
