We offer classes to adults (18+) in beginner street dance and advanced contemporary
We run education workshops in schools and colleges for KS3, KS4, KS5
We also work with the local authority to deliver workshops
We want to:
*Introduce more people to dance
*Create new and exciting dance performances
*Help contemporary dance become more accessible, as well as creating a space for urban dance to be explored further
*Attract new audiences
*Support high quality teaching of dance in education
* Collaborate with other artists
* Lead high quality workshops and classes
* Continue to develop ourselves as artists
* To ultimately inspire, motivate and encourage others to believe in the positive impact dance can make
About the Artistic Director:
Laura Heda
Laura Heda is the Artistic Director and founder of Serious Shapes Dance Company, she has been dancing for over 15 years and has trained in; street, hiphop, locking, breaking, popping, contemporary, ballet, modern, jazz and tap. Laura has performed in numerous events, shows and venues and has been teaching for 4 years. In 2006 Laura was a member of Hampshire Youth Dance Company, and she is now a board member for Hampshire Dance.
After obtaining her Ba (Hons) in Dance and Choreography (2.1) at the University of Chichester, where her dissertation was titled 'Be girls or B-girls?: Gender Politics in Breaking' she is even more taken with the culture of hip-hop dance. She believes there is real potential for creativity to amplify when blending urban and contemporary dance.
Whilst at University Laura also gained her Foundation Dance Instructor (F.D.I) certificate in ballet and modern theatre dance with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (I.S.T.D) this provided a benchmark of knowledge when she studied for her PGCE at the University of Brighton, with a specialism in dance.
