The Rag and Bone Theatre Company promises ‘fun, play, skills, exercise, creativity, drama, movement, laughs and friends for life’. Rag and Bone theatre club aims to make moving, thought-provoking, funny and challenging work with young people to share with its community, old and young. It aims to help young people remember how to play and use their imaginations and creativity in an increasingly technological world, where video games and the internet can distract us. We will work with large groups but have an eye on the individual and try to tailor the experience for them. If someone is not being challenged we will try to find a solution and a way of stretching them. Not everyone can be the star of the show, and not everone will want to be. Some may be happier being a stage manager, making scenery, or being part of the chorus. Although everyone will be asked to perform, the extent to which they do so is down to them, in negotiation with us. The Theatre group is named after the old Rag and Bone men who called out to their community and asked them to bring out things they no longer needed. Their philosophy was to recycle and re-use, not to take things for granted and to be resourceful. This resourcefulness will be at the heart of what we do. We won’t ask parents to fork out hundreds of pounds for costumes, but will ask people to do what they can and to provide what they can to help us to put on successful productions. We will also do exciting street theatre performances and flash mobs – where we will go out in to the community and perform short pieces of theatre or movement, often to an unsuspecting crowd. Taster session on Saturday August 27th at St Pauls church Hall,Malmesbury Road, Chippenham. 9.30-10.45, 11-12.30, 1-2.30.
