Moving and Framing is a one-day workshop for those interested in exploring the connections between dance and the camera and is led by Lisa May Thomas – an independent dance artist and director whose films have received awards, been screened at film festivals internationally and broadcast on Channel 4.
This workshop looks at how improvisation can be used to both generate choreographic material, and in filming to capture the spontaneity and energy of a performance. Workshop participants may take part as either on-screen performers, or camera operators and some may choose to move between the two areas of activity. The day includes a mix of presentation and discussion of ideas, experimentation, investigation and support.
As well as exploring different approaches and techniques used in screen-dance, Lisa discusses examples of editing as the next step in the film-making process, and there is an opportunity to practice in-camera editing techniques. Participants should bring their own video camera if they have one, or state that they would like one provided.
The workshop is open to all aged 16+
