Juncture Theatre’s devised piece, inspired by Thomas Packenham’s series of books (Meeting with Remarkable Trees, Remarkable Trees of the World) humorously and sympathetically explores life in, up, down and around trees. Transforming the Wardrobe space into a semi-promenade forest creates an environment in which the audiences and characters seemingly disparate lives can effortlessly interweave. Uncovering their myths and memories will inspire and rekindle an admiration for these modest monuments of natural architecture, without encouraging dendrophilia.

The Wardrobe is a new theatre space which opened in May 2011 above the White Bear pub on St. Michael's Hill providing a mix of theatre and regular local nights. The Wardrobe is run on a voluntary basis by a team made up of experienced theatre producers across Bristol who are willing to put in the hours to make something special. The focus of the venue is to support new work being made locally and on being accessible, with theatre shows always under a fiver.

Juncture are a Bristol based theatre production company which aim to create innovative and unexpected performance through collaboration with a variety of artists and performers. It is committed to nurturing relationships with seemingly disparate artistic communities and mediums to create exciting moments of daring drama and a cross-pollination of ideas. 

Anna Girvan is a freelance theatre director based in Bristol. She graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010 with an MA in Directing. She has worked for many venues and companies across the South West and London including the Tobacco Factory, Bristol Old Vic, Trafalgar Studios, Ustinov, Roughhouse Theatre, Darkstuff Productions, Alma Tavern, Wrtiers’ Forum and the Wardrobe Theatre.

We are looking for a cast of three keen and enthusiastic devisers to create this piece together. It will be an ensemble creation. There are no age, gender or ethnicity restrictions on casting as we want the piece to come from the actors we work with.

This an exciting opportunity to work on creating a piece of work with a group of like minded people and hopefully a piece which could have life beyond the performance at the Wardrobe. The Wardrobe it a fantastic new space in it third season and Juncture have been asked especially to work in the space due their commitment to creating new and exciting theatre in fresh non-theatrical spaces.

Open Auditions to take place 11th and 12th February between 10am-6pm.

The auditions do not require prepared speeches. All we request is for the auditionees to tell us about their first memory of a remarkable tree or, if this stretches the mind too far back, anything related to a tree, even if very loosely. This could be through a fictional or true story, a poem, song, a piece from a  play, a joke, a piece of mime, dance, anything! Bring an object if you like or a book, anything you think you find interesting and think we would too. We may ask you to do a little improvisation as well.

Devising process over four weeks but not full time. Very little rehearsal at weekends or evenings. Mostly daytime rehearsals.
