46 Devonshire Road, BathBrian Madigan has been composing music for theatre and visual media since the late 1980s, when he studied music at Middlesex Polytechnic in London. There he specialised in composition, working extensively on music for contemporary dance and producing scores for student films.
Since then, he has gone on to write for theatre, film and TV commercials, as well as becoming the UK’s leading producer of music for dance education. Film credits include Edinburgh International Film Festival award-winner ’Billy’s Day Out’, (directed by BBC- stalwart Iain B MacDonald). Brian has written music for Nestle Rowntree’s ‘Wonka’ range, Kit Kat, Wilkinson Sword, Comfort and Weetos ad campaigns and currently has representation from 44 Point One and Amadeus Music. Theatre collaborations include projects with, among others, Inner Room Theatre Co, Big State Theatre and Prime Theatre
Brian is a visiting lecturer at Bath Spa University and is currently providing music-for-picture workshops on the newly-introduced Diploma in Creative Media in Wiltshire. He has run music improvisation workshops in a number of settings, including theatre summer-schools, Dance courses and for volunteer workers in Africa.
As a performer, Brian has worked in everything from pit orchestras to punk bands. Currently, he fronts his own group ‘a Band named Brian’ on guitar and vocals and plays drums and percussion in a variety of other bands. Brian has performed at festivals and venues throughout the UK, including several Glastonbury appearances, Edinburgh Fringe, Shetland Folk Festival and the South Bank in London.
