Fuse Performance

Fuse Performance is a leading Oudoor Performance and Street Arts Company based in Somerset. Fuse work locally and internationally providing opportunites for emergent artists and professionals.

Fuse produce events, performances, installations and new commissioned works.  

Fuse director John Lee has toured with the British Council and performed in South America, Asia, Africa, Ireland, France, Holland, Italy, Spain and China.

Sally Mann has worked in Northern Ireland and the UK and creates art in public spaces. 

Nationally Fuse have produced work at the National Theatre London, Watch This Space, Manchester X Trax, Salisbury International Festival, B Side Multi Media Festival, London Mime Festival to name but a few. 

Performances and events created in Somerset have included. The I Scream Van solar powered cinema, Cafe Lente, Misguided Tours, The Little Big Top Circus, The Village Fete. Lantern processions, Fire Spectacle performances, Aller Dragon, Aller State Express, performing at local cultural events from Wassails to Apple Day events, Bonfire celebrations, Christmas Lights On, Carnival to Cabaret and producing street arts festivals and events.

Fuse have produced performances in unusual sites and play between art and life, real and fake and using mobile technologies. Some include:

Year of the Artist - The Caravan Show

Bristol City Football Club - Year of the Artist- Clown in Residence 

Cafe Lente - Anti Static Festival of Live Art, Appledore Visual Arts Festival, Larmer Tree Festival.

The Village fete Performance Event, Kingsbury Episcopi May Fayre. Larmer Tree.

A Misguided Tour celebrating 150 years of Arts Education in Taunton, tours are produced at events throughout the UK.

Roots Routes Roots - Millennium Foundation - Environment Project, collecting Somerset sounds, photography and film.

The Nomadic mobile studio incorporating film, sound recording, music photography, visual and performing arts.

Fuse offer training and apprenticeships for emerging artists. Director John Lee has established the first BA Hons Street Arts degree in the UK and in Europe at the University of Winchester. Fuse directors research within European partnerships and have organised European Street Arts conferences and collaborations in Slovenia, France, Spain and the UK. 

Sally Mann has established training for local emergent artists in Somerset and provide opportunites for work and training. In 2011 Fuse offered emergent artists work opportunites at La Forneau. National Centre Artes dans la Rue. Other residencies include Fira Taregga International Street Arts Festival. A site specific performance was produced in response to Picassos's painting Guernica. Fuse has aslo produced installation works in response to the Somerset landscape that included Somerset sounds and stories, film and photography culminating in a installation event.

Fuse directors Sally and John combine knowledge and expertise in professional training, in performance and directing. They link professional practice and education offering new work and opportunites. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Key Projects

Streetjam

Streetjam is a street arts and outdoor performance project. Emerging from this project is a youth company called 'streetlinkz', an emergent young street arts company based in East Taunton. The Fuse project Streetjam have been working with members from Somerset College Performing Arts, Escape Parkour, Elementz Street Dance, Amy Sully dance company, We gratefully acknowledge the generous support from the Arts Council of Great Britain, Taunton Deane Borough Council, Somerset County Council, National Health Service, Avon and Somerset Police Constabulary, The Links Centre Partnership and the young people involved in the streetjam project.

B- Side Multi Media festival

The I Scream Van Mobile cinema visited the esplanade along the seafront in Weymouth showing new films inspired by stories from Weymouth walks and journeys, Local films were shown as well as mock horror movies. Soundscapes were created from conversations with local people and holiday makers. Ice screams were enjoyed by all. The I Scream Van was a tremendous success with local people and visitors.

Streetjam International Street Arts Festival

Fuse Performance organised Somerset's first International Street Arts Festival. Two new commissions were produced with a new tour for Taunton. A contemporary live streamed performance was directed and produced by Olu Taiwo and Sally Mann. Workshops in beat box, dance, circus, trapeze, street dance. Performances and music, from the Australian Womens Hoop Squad to working with the fabulous Mr Woodhouse. Performances and sounds animated the High Street in Taunton and Vivary Park. Stages and events are produced in collaboration with the Taunton Town Centre Company with events throughout the year. 2012 Streetjam events have recently been awarded the Inspire Mark and we look forward to a colourful year of events, collaborations and producing new work for Somerset and across the regions.

A Mid Winter Streetjam

In December 2011 Fuse produced a stage for new talent, emergent artists and companies showcasing new work. Jugglers, rappers, poets, beat boxers, street dancers, stilt walkers, light and fire performers came and took part adding to the celebrations of the Christmas Lights On events. Events for 2011/12 to watch out for are the May Taunton Town Centre celebrations, Apple Day, Streetjam Festival and Fuse events.
