Curious Company is a small company of performers who dance, sing, use circus skills, make music, perform cabaret, teach dance and drama and are based in the South West. The comapny was started in 1994 by Louise Rennie who trained at Circomedia in Bristol. We have worked in the Rock and Roll industry, corporate entertainment, on the street, at music and theatre festivals and in nightclubs. We are inspired by Hollywood musicals, fairy tales, cartoons and big, rock and roll productions.

CC now produces high quality theatrical entertainment for events, campaigns and parties. We offer a wardrobe of ready-made characters and acts and an extremely professional production service that works with you to realise your most fabulous ideas. We revel in bringing something magical and relevant whatever the context.

CC has been entertaining at parties for 20 years. Inspired by a love of dressing up and dancing, over the years this has developed into a professional and innovative company with a formidable track record. Through the use of strong character, talented performers, fabulous costume and an awareness of the audience’s energy we can help the client sell stuff, break the ice, educate, entertain, look more glamorous and cultured, get lost in the moment and ultimately have fun.

In 2008 we got our first ACE project funding for Mr Wippy and the Conettes-a piece of musical theatre for the street designed for family audiences and based in an antique ice cream van. We are now partnering Gloucestershire Dance in a bid for a new production of the Little Mermaid to be set in a swimming pool, with an integrated dance company and a synchronised swimming team.

Key Projects

Mr Wippy and the Conettes

Mr Wippy and the Conettes is a piece of mobile, musical theatre based in an antique ice cream van. The styling is reminiscent of 1940’s American ‘Cheesecake’ art and the saucy seaside postcard art of pre-war Britain, tailored to suit family audiences. The theme of the show is ice cream and it is 15mins long. The characters; Mr. Wippy- the compère and crooner, Knickerbocker Glory (AKA Strawberry Sauce) the leading lady and The Conettes-the two backing singers, all sing and dance familiar Hollywood musical numbers with rewritten lyrics. Between shows the cast offer short dance workshops to members of the audience, all ages are welcome.

A Curious Wonderland

This show, (based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland) intends to turn the event site (whether it is a house, town, field, a square, garden or a shopping centre) into ‘Wonderland’ by presenting scenes throughout the day or weekend. The scenes are interactive, walkabout theatre that passers-by can get involved in, giving them the experience of being on their own adventure in Wonderland. There is also a high level of physical skill, strong costume and slapstick humour to keep people entertained.

Zim Zimmer

This humorous, family, walkabout show is about 2-5 Old Aged Pensioners. The story is simple- they have escaped from the home they have been sent to by their families. Whilst making their escape (with the aid of their Zimmer frames) they relish in the joys of their new-won freedom and behave rather like a group of unruly teenagers. The contrast between old age and bad (ish) behaviour is an unfamiliar one and allows for endless, unexpected anomalies. We hope to paint a picture of young people trapped in old people’s bodies.
