Patrick Sandford is to step down as artistic director of the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton in 2013 after 25 years in the role to persue a freelance career. The company will then adopt a new operational structure, with a creative producer leading the artistic work rather than a like-for-like replacement for Sandford.
Kate Anderson, executive director of the Nuffield, said: “It means being led by somebody from a producing background rather than a directing background. That will include programming, producing, commissioning and putting together teams to deliver work, rather than being led by a practising theatre director.”
