Arts Council England is to announce how it will make the £19 million of in-year savings demanded of it by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on Monday June 21.
Last month, ACE was hit with £19 million of in-year cuts under Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne’s £6.2 billion savings drive. While other DCMS bodies were asked to find 3% savings, the arts council was asked for an extra £5 million.
At the time, the DCMS suggested that ACE could access its “historic reserves” to help mitigate the cuts.
The arts council is expected to announce next Monday how it will find these savings - which come from the already allocated budget for 2010/11 - and how much of the £19 million will come from frontline arts organisations, how much from its own running costs and how much from the historic reserves.
