Bristol Old Vic has been awarded £5.3 million by Arts Council England to help fund the long-planned refurbishment of the Theatre Royal.
Further details of the award and how the money will be used are to be announced at a public meeting at the theatre on April 29. At the meeting, BOV executive director Emma Stenning and artistic director Tom Morris will speak in public for the first time about the theatre’s capital project.
Stenning said: “We are delighted that Arts Council England had decided to award Bristol Old Vic this substantial grant towards our capital project. ACE’s ongoing support is an invaluable acknowledgement that Bristol Old Vic is a precious resource to the region and the cultural landscape as a whole.”

Great – when Arts council England are slashing the amount of funding they give to individuals. It’s short-sighted to give so much to a building when there won’t ultimately be any surviving writers and other new local talent. I guess BOV isn’t concerned with creativity, as long as the theatre looks good and they can reproduce Shakespeare ad nauseum
God help me, I put aside a whole atefronon to figure this out.
